Comment fic meme #2

After the first round of got_exchange we had a surprisingly successful comment fic meme going for a while (here's a list of all the fics that were written last time), so I thought it might be fun to do this again. (Like last time, it's posted on the mod account journal because I don't want to enable anonymous comments on the exchange community.)

I changed the layout to one that still supports comment titles. I hope it works for everyone. If there are any problems, please let me know.

A couple of rules, or rather guidelines:

- please include the pairing/character (and maybe a short prompt/kink) in the comment title - both for prompts and for fills.
- there are both show and book fans on this comm, so please warn for book spoilers beyond AGOT in the comment title.
- anonymous comments are enabled, but I'd appreciate if we kept them to a minimum. If you absolutely want to go anon, okay, but I'd rather we kept this as non-anonymous as possible.
- all prompts are welcome: smut, gen, romance, fluff, angst, het, slash ... anything goes.
- and the usual: be civil, no character/pairing bashing, no kink shaming etc.

It's perfectly fine to repost prompts from the last comment fic meme or from the exchange.

As with any kink meme, this is only fun if people also fill prompts, not if there are only requests.

Davos comforting Stannis for some reason or other, maybe his brothers have been treating him like shit again, maybe he's annoyed by his wife, any reason you like. It'd be great if you can actually get them to touch, as difficult as that may be with Stannis. ;)

He found Lord Stannis Baratheon outside the maester's chambers, pacing back and forth. It had been three days since his daughter had taken ill, and it looked to Davos as if the young lord hadn't slept in the days since. His black hair looked more unkept than Davos had ever seen it, and his clothing was wrinkled. He also hadn't seemed to notice anyone else had entered the room.

Davos waited for a moment, before clearing his throat. "My Lord?"

Stannis stopped on the spot and turned to face the other man.

Davos continued on. "I was sent to inform you that Maester Cressen will be required to tend to the ravens on the morn."

Stannis said nothing. Davos pressed on.

"Despite the..." he paused, "circumstances, the maester has other duties, and there is little else that the man can do—" He stopped himself from continuing on. They both knew what he would say.

Stannis kept his gaze fixed on Davos before finally speaking. "I am well aware of the maester's responsibilities. Yet, Cressen—" He paused, moving his jaw from side to side. "Cressen said that the first few days are the most important if she is to—" He swallowed again, "if she is to fight off the infection. It is not always fatal in children."

There was a desperate look in his eyes, as though he wanted Davos to reassure him that somehow Shireen would survive, that it was no fault of his own, that he had loved her as any father should and not looked at her with disappointment, wishing that she could have been a son. But the both of them knew that Davos could never do such a thing. He could never lie.

And so, they stood in silence, eyes meeting one another. After the Gods knew how long, Stannis leaned against the wall, rubbing his temples.

"Cressen will tend to his other duties. You may leave, ser."

Yet, Davos did not move. Again, there was that strange flicker of desperation in the other man's eyes. "I said that you may leave."

Davos nodded. "Yes, my lord. But you did not say that I must."

And for a moment a faint flicker of a smile appeared across Stannis' thin lips.

"Do what you will, then."

For the rest of the night, he waited with him in silence.

SRJGDFGBDFLGBDFGDFKL I LOVE THIS. <3 Even without any touching, it's beautiful. Oh Stannis. I loved that you picked this situation. Of course he'd fret like mad, because he does love Shireen, in his own way. And Davos who can't lie to him, not even then, but who stays with him instead of leaving him alone ... It's so perfectly them. Thank you so much for writing this. :)

This is so sad and wonderfully done. I've always wondered about Stannis and his daughter, and the idea that he cares but can't allow himself to care too much because of her illness and the fact that he has no idea what to do w/a daughter, etc. is heart-breaking and sweet.

Love how Davos "disobeys" as well. :)
