After the first round of

got_exchange we had a surprisingly successful comment fic meme going for a while (here's a list of all the fics that were written last time), so I thought it might be fun to do this again. (Like last time, it's posted on the mod account journal because I don't want to enable anonymous comments on the exchange community.)

I changed the layout to one that still supports comment titles. I hope it works for everyone. If there are any problems, please let me know.

A couple of rules, or rather guidelines:

- please include the pairing/character (and maybe a short prompt/kink) in the comment title - both for prompts and for fills.
- there are both show and book fans on this comm, so please warn for book spoilers beyond AGOT in the comment title.
- anonymous comments are enabled, but I'd appreciate if we kept them to a minimum. If you absolutely want to go anon, okay, but I'd rather we kept this as non-anonymous as possible.
- all prompts are welcome: smut, gen, romance, fluff, angst, het, slash ... anything goes.
- and the usual: be civil, no character/pairing bashing, no kink shaming etc.

It's perfectly fine to repost prompts from the last comment fic meme or from the exchange.

As with any kink meme, this is only fun if people also fill prompts, not if there are only requests.

To Serve and Protect.

“We rescue people who need rescuing,” she tells herself time and time again, “The most important part of our job is to save lives.”

Brienne believes this with all her heart.

On her first day at the academy, everyone looks at her with mixed feelings of skepticism or resentment; some even go for outright disdain. She still can ear their disbelief ( "she’s the one who got a perfect score on the entrance exam?”, "She’s going to graduate before us?”, "Come on! she’s not so great plus she's a woman.”). Needless to say, she doesn't really feel welcome. But she tells herself that she doesn’t care, not really. She never joined the academy to make friends or be popular. Besides, she knows that just because she’s top of her classes and shoots better than pretty much everyone, it doesn’t mean that everything will come easily to her. Far from it.

People, she knows that, like to focus more on someone's failures than their successes.

And her first mission is a failure. Her superior ends up dead and she doesn't even understand how it happenned. The world collapses around her and she can hear the vicious words and whispers all over again, except stronger this time. With her grades, with her abilities, she should be in one of the best department of the country, fighting terrorist along the top class agents. But it doesn't go that way and instead she's sent to a pitiful desk with a strange partner who has a gun that doesn't work and has a smile filled with too much irony to be honest.

" So you’re the prodigy!" he salutes her casually, feet on his desk and coffee in his hands.

Oh, and without his shirt on.

" Why are you half naked?"

" Hot day."

" Just don't do that! Please, we are at work. Be civilized." she yelps quickly loosing all semblance of the heavy dignity she was supporting for her entrance.

" Oh oh." laughs her new partner, searching for his shirt, sweaty and disgusting and grinning like a crazy lion ("what is that hair?" she asks herself silently).

He sticks his hand towards her, taking her by surprise.

" I'm agent Lannister."

" Agent Tarth."

" Tarth? What kind of name is that?"

Brienne blinks.

" Well it's my name."

" Never heard of it."

" Which is irrelevant to me."

" What's your other name?"

" Other name?"

" Your real name."

" What other name? My name is Tarth!"

" So it's Tarth Tarth? That's peculiar."

She decides precisely at that moment that she hates him. That as soon as she'll be able to, she'll change partners. Anyone but him. Anyone. It takes at least six months to be able to ask for a change.

She thinks it will be long until then.

But they get their first case and six months becomes a year just like that. A young girl named Sansa Stark who disappeared at the hand of a man they all suspect to be a pedophile and goes with the username of Littlefinger on the internet. It's an intense search and at some point, Jaime(she calls him Jaime now) gets shot. It's scary and she never wants to feel that way again.

" Why are you here again woman?" he asks when she comes to visit him at the hospital. "I’m supposed to be resting! I’m injured you know!"

" You only got twenty-eight stitches really. Suck-it-up." she snaps at him.

They smile at each other for a couple of minutes and then, they get back to work, papers splattered on the white sheets. She shows him the new informations they got on the Sansa case. They both understand how important that affair is for them. They need it. Their honor of cops demands it. To serve and to protect.

“We rescue people who need rescuing,” she tells him while he starts falling asleep, “The most important part of our job is to save lives.”

It's a whisper but it doesn't make it any less true. Jaime presses her hand and she can’t help but ask herself how she can let the lion useless man who does stupid things to grow so inconceivably close to her so very quickly. Even more, she wonders when she started being completely okay with it.

This is really cute! I love the parallel with Renly's death that you put in here and how Brienne is really resistant to having Jaime as a partner at first but is eventually won over by him, slowly but surely. Also: banter! Definitely an essential element of Jaime & Brienne's relationship.

I was afraid of the banter being too sappy tbh. But then again I can totally imagine Jaime just getting under her skin that way.

Ooh this was excellent! The banter was totally priceless and their first meeting including Jaime not wearing his shirt and being totally snarky with her. And oh dear the two of them bantering about how many stitches he has while he's at the hospital is just so -them-, I can't even. And Brienne's mantra in this is so very her (and I really liked how you described the academy/Renly dying - it so mirrored canon nicely). And awwww the ending was just too good.
