Comment fic meme #2
After the first round of
got_exchange we had a surprisingly successful comment fic meme going for a while (here's a list of all the fics that were written last time), so I thought it might be fun to do this again. (Like last time, it's posted on the mod account journal because I don't want to enable anonymous comments on the exchange community.)
I changed the layout to one that still supports comment titles. I hope it works for everyone. If there are any problems, please let me know.
A couple of rules, or rather guidelines:
- please include the pairing/character (and maybe a short prompt/kink) in the comment title - both for prompts and for fills.
- there are both show and book fans on this comm, so please warn for book spoilers beyond AGOT in the comment title.
- anonymous comments are enabled, but I'd appreciate if we kept them to a minimum. If you absolutely want to go anon, okay, but I'd rather we kept this as non-anonymous as possible.
- all prompts are welcome: smut, gen, romance, fluff, angst, het, slash ... anything goes.
- and the usual: be civil, no character/pairing bashing, no kink shaming etc.
It's perfectly fine to repost prompts from the last comment fic meme or from the exchange.
As with any kink meme, this is only fun if people also fill prompts, not if there are only requests.

FILL II : Sansa, Brienne, 'True Knights' (pt 1/2)
Sansa winces, her fingers twitch, longing to pull her cloak higher, are they looking for me, still, after all this time, am I not a forgotten ghost, but Petyr has taught her better than to jump like a frightened rabbit, like the frightened child he brought to the Vale and slowly deconstructed.
He watches her, silently, for a few moments, and Sansa feels her heart thudding in her throat, wondering if she should flee, and then suddenly, it is too late to flee, because he is approaching her, footsteps heavy on the hollowed floor.
“Forgive me, my lady. I am looking for my sister, a highborn maid of three and ten, lost from King’s Landing, very fair with auburn hair and blue eyes.” Sansa starts, despite herself, to hear that the voice is a woman’s, that this very large knight, dressed in armour and mail and with such an impressive sword, is no true knight (there are no true knights) but a lady, and she loses her voice for a moment as she gapes up at her.
After a moment, a moment that comes sooner than it would have in a past that does not seem to belong to her, anymore, she finds it. “I do not know where to find your sister,” she answers stiffly.
“I am sorry to hear it,” the woman knight answers, and uninvited, she sits on the bench across from Sansa, her gaze searching and searing upon her. “There are so many in the world who wish her harm, and I want to keep her safe.”
“I hope you find her, then,” Sansa says, uneasily, uncertain why this stranger has joined her, longing to flee but knowing better than to draw such attention; she tightens her grip upon the bench, feeling the wood bite into her fingers, and it keeps her anchored to the ground and anchored to the world. “You are a good sister, to search for her,” she says, for lack of anything else to say, and she feels a pang, sudden and unexpected, for her own sister, lost to the world as well, perhaps dead, perhaps gone forever, and there is nothing Sansa craved more, in that moment, than to hold her clumsy, infuriating little sister (Arya would hate that, would hate to be held, but perhaps, after all this time, she would allow Sansa a moment before twisting away with a grin and a rebuke).
The knight leans forward, her eyes still on Sansa’s face, as to not be overheard, her voice hushed. “I will speak honestly - she is not truly my sister, she is Lady Sansa Stark, of Winterfell, and I have sworn a vow to find her, and keep her safe.” And Sansa bites her lip, hard, then, against a cry of shock, of dismay, of relief, of denial (she knows she is not safe, she has not been safe in so long that she barely remembers how it feels, but she thinks it feels like her father’s arms gentle around her, her real father, not Alayne’s father, with his greedy eyes and sly smiles, her real father who was honest and honorable and is dead now, because of it, because of her.)
“I hope you find her, then,” Sansa echoes, her voice hoarse, and she is sure that her fear is written across her face. Petyr had tried to teach her, to school her to never show an emotion, and she had studied dutifully but never mastered. Oh, Alayne, he had said and kissed her on the forehead, you are such an honest maid, just another lie, he lied as easily as he breathed (but he does not breathe, anymore, it had been so simple, so simple in the end, he had played the game well but she had been his blind spot, she with the face that he had loved so dearly, once).
They sit, quietly, for a moment, and Sansa feels a flicker of irritation, a flicker of dread, of fear. Please just go away and leave me alone, I wish everyone would just leave me alone, just for a moment, just for one moment so I could rest.
FILL II : Sansa, Brienne, 'True Knights' (pt 2/2)
“Like who?” she asks, and she is proud of the way she keeps her voice steady, proud of the way she pretends she doesn’t know, pretends she hasn’t always known, hasn’t been reminded with Petyr’s gaze upon her face, her aunt’s distrustful, resentful glares, that it doesn’t hurt, sometimes, an ache too deep inside her to reach and soothe, to look in the mirror and see what is reflected there.
“Like your mother. Like Lady Catelyn,” she answers gently, as though afraid she will startle her, and Sansa feels a blaze of anger, brief and hot, I am no little bird, not anymore.
“I have no mother,” she fairly spits, the word heavy and almost unfamiliar in her mouth, now, after so much time, it has almost lost its meaning but it can never lose the pull on Sansa’s heart, that pull back to Winterfell, back to the days of her youth. She would stand straight and tall in her best dress and would beam, secretly thrilled, when her father would say she looked like her mother, because her mother was beautiful, her mother was a lady. “My mother is dead.”
The lady knight’s eyes are very beautiful, the only part of her that is so, large and so vividly blue, and they are kind, and it almost hurts to look at them, so Sansa looks away, glancing instead at the top of her head, at the roughly chopped hair the color of straw. I should have dyed my hair before I left, she thinks, miserably, then no one would know her true identity, no one would tell her she looked like the mother she’d lost, she could slip into the familiar comfortable skin of Alayne, a girl who had not known the sorrows of Sansa Stark. “Yes,” she agrees, and Sansa meets her eye again to see a flicker there that she does not quite understand. “She is dead. But before she was murdered, I swore her my sword, and I promised her I would find you, and keep you safe.”
“Ladies do not have sworn swords,” Sansa blurts out, and the knight draws her sword; it is beautiful and terrible, red and dark and somehow familiar, and she should be terrified, but she is not, somehow, though she tries again and again to not trust, though she has learned life is not a song and there are no true knights, perhaps, perhaps some knights are still honest, and good.
The lady knight places the blade on the table, and very gently, Sansa reaches out to touch the hilt. “Your mother did. I swore a different sword to Lady Catelyn,” she says, and there is a brightness in her eyes, a hope,. “But I swear I shall keep my promise, and this sword is yours, if you will have it,” her voice drops a bit, still secretive, still aware, and Sansa is thankful for that, “if you will have it, Lady Sansa.”
Sansa raises her eyes, meets that honest gaze, and though she does not feel safe (she will never again feel safe), she feels that vice around her heart loosen its death choke.
Just a bit.
“I must have your name,” she says, and she blinks, she does not know why her eyes suddenly fill, she knew my mother, she said her name, she has been looking for me.
The knight smiles, and it transforms her, there is no escaping the gash and scarring on her cheek and the wide spread of her face and broadness of her shoulders, but it is a light from within that bursts forth, and it makes her lovely, in an odd way, in a different way. “Brienne,” she answers, “I am Brienne, and I am so glad to have found you, at last.”

Re: FILL II : Sansa, Brienne, 'True Knights' (pt 2/2)
Thank you again for your wonderful comments!
Re: FILL II : Sansa, Brienne, 'True Knights' (pt 2/2)
I love the idea of Brienne being Sansa's "true knight" because it's so ADVERSE to what not just her personal beliefs are, but what the entire foundation of a society that pushes women into the domestic realm would even think possible (y)
Also, the mentions of Cately and how they tugged at Sansa was so poignant--and how unwilling she was at first to trust was so true to where her character is at this point--really beautifully done, thank you for such a lovely fill!! :D
Re: FILL II : Sansa, Brienne, 'True Knights' (pt 2/2)
I'm glad you thought Sansa's unwillingness to trust worked, I tried to make her resistant but still keep it to a comment fic! XD And I'm glad you liked the references to Catelyn, I always see Sansa as looking up to her mother so much as the ideal lady of the house that she would like to be, but now any comparisons are just sorrowful (and twisted, in the case of Petyr and Lysa).
Thanks again for the lovely comment! :)
Re: FILL II : Sansa, Brienne, 'True Knights' (pt 2/2)
The beginning huuuuuurts me because she's so guarded and untrusting and OF COURSE, SHE WOULD BE, SHE SHOULD BE, but it huuurts me she has to be like that now. And I love all the little references to what Petyr taught her, to how she learned to hide but not enough, to killing him and how she sometimes wishes she could still be Alayne.
Arya would hate that, would hate to be held, but perhaps, after all this time, she would allow Sansa a moment before twisting away with a grin and a rebuke
*wibble* But oh god I love how Brienne is so persistent and it's her EYES that get Sansa, how they're kind and that is rare and aahhh, FEELINGS ATTACK. omg the last line made me a little teary.
Re: FILL II : Sansa, Brienne, 'True Knights' (pt 2/2)
It hurts me tooooo, Sansa gets so much grief for being so dreamy/romantic-minded at the beginning of the series but OF COURSE SHE IS, and I hate that she gets that broken out of her. Her line to Petyr about asking if life was just lie after lie and it just goes on and on forever and no one ever being honest or kind and he's like "yeah, basically" UGH I DIED, MY HEART, MY POOR BABY SANSA. :( :( :(
I feel like we get so little female friendship in the novels (compared to all the epic bromances) and I loved Brienne and Catelyn's friendship and love Brienne's dedication to finding Sansa, and I JUST WANT HER TO FIND HER, SO BAD, SO THEY CAN BE FRIENDS AND TRUST EACH OTHER. And I also want Sansa and Arya to reunite and still bicker and still be completely different but be like WE STILL TOTALLY LOVE EACH OTHER BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE IN THE WORLD SUCK.
Thank you again for your wonderful wonderful words!!
