Comment fic meme #2

After the first round of

got_exchange we had a surprisingly successful comment fic meme going for a while (here's a list of all the fics that were written last time), so I thought it might be fun to do this again. (Like last time, it's posted on the mod account journal because I don't want to enable anonymous comments on the exchange community.)

I changed the layout to one that still supports comment titles. I hope it works for everyone. If there are any problems, please let me know.

A couple of rules, or rather guidelines:

- please include the pairing/character (and maybe a short prompt/kink) in the comment title - both for prompts and for fills.
- there are both show and book fans on this comm, so please warn for book spoilers beyond AGOT in the comment title.
- anonymous comments are enabled, but I'd appreciate if we kept them to a minimum. If you absolutely want to go anon, okay, but I'd rather we kept this as non-anonymous as possible.
- all prompts are welcome: smut, gen, romance, fluff, angst, het, slash ... anything goes.
- and the usual: be civil, no character/pairing bashing, no kink shaming etc.

It's perfectly fine to repost prompts from the last comment fic meme or from the exchange.

As with any kink meme, this is only fun if people also fill prompts, not if there are only requests.

EEE! I am so looking forward to this. :D I know it's kind of a vague prompt but I trust that whatever you write about these boys will be excellent.

I tried to write some canon Stannis/Jon set when Stannis is at the Wall, for once, but somehow that didn't work out. But I still wanted to post something for you tonight, so have some Kingsguard!Jon instead (with some Stannis/Sansa on the side). I'll have a look at the other thing again later. It was closer to your prompt, actually, and you'll probably get a second fill tomorrow or so.

Jon would never forget that first evening he had spent with Sansa after they had met again. They had talked more than they ever had when they were children. He had spoken of the Wall, the Night's Watch and the war, and she had talked - timidly, quietly - about her captivity. Her voice had trembled when she told him how she had always taken care to guard her tongue and even her thoughts, how she had been so terrified of saying a single wrong word. Jon had reassured her that things would be different with Stannis on the Iron Throne, that the king valued few things as much as blunt honesty.

Jon had meant his words. Stannis valued his advice, asked for his counsel, and whenever Jon kept quiet for too long or was evasive because he thought it was not the Kingsguard's place to tell the king what to do, Stannis would snap at him and demand an answer. Do you think I made you my Kingsguard so you could stand around and look handsome in a white cloak? I would have kept Ser Loras if that was what I wanted. Speak your mind, Snow.

It was refreshing how openly he could talk to the king, at least when they were alone. How Stannis listened to him and took his words into consideration. How Stannis almost smiled a little every time Jon was too forward, too blunt, as if he appreciated the lack of flattery.

Yet there were some things Jon could not allow himself to say, could barely allow himself to think. That he felt more than only respect and admiration for his king, that he felt trapped by his own thoughts every time Stannis' stepped too close, that he only went quiet when Stannis touched him because he could not trust his voice. He despised himself for it, not so much because he had grown to love a man more than he should, but because this was his king, who trusted him enough to drape a white cloak over his shoulders. Jon felt like he betrayed him every time he even thought about embracing him, about kneeling and not getting up when Stannis would order him to. Felt like he betrayed his sister by thinking that way of her husband, as if he had any right to desire the man that had vowed to be hers.

And that was why sometimes, when he stood by his king's side and Stannis asked him if he had swallowed his tongue, Jon could not help but reply with an empty, courteous, "No, Your Grace."

Because there were some things even Stannis Baratheon was not willing to hear.

Amazing - the Stannis snarkiness towards Jon, Sansa/Stannis, & Jon's mega-UST there at the end. The tension in that throne room must be thicker than mud.

Haha, yes. Between Davos on one side of the throne and Jon on the other, all that UST might break the Iron Throne. ;) Stannis really is the master of all UST ... except with Sansa, obviously.

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. You are the best. I can't believe you intro this fic by going "by the way, there is totally going to be even more Stannis/Jon soon" and then you post this wonderful thing.

I love how you fitted together Stannis' valuing honesty and Jon's inability to be honest about his feelings for Stannis. So right on. And you tied in Sansa and her arc to that as well. Wonderful, true-to-canon parallels.

I also love how you can tell that Jon clearly feels self-conscious about his elevated position as a Kingsguard and is worrying about what, specifically, his duty as Stannis' sworn shield is.

Oh Stannis, you might be willing to hear, if only you knewww.

In short, I love this a lot and I am going to go around being ridiculously blunt to everyone today now because that's what Stannis would want me to do. ;D

Sansa just wrote herself in there, I don#t know. My headcanon is powerful. And of course Jon would mostly worry about DUTY and HONOUR, because he's Jon.

Stannis would be so willing, you just need to help him a little.

What Would Stannis Do? He'd offend everyone by speaking his mind. All the time.

I actually tried to write that once, but somehow it turned into a big Stannis&Davos reunion thing and everyone forget about Rickon and Jon. ;) Also, it sucked and I didn't finish it.

Or you could make an AU where Davos went with Stannis. Everyone at the Wall ^^. No Rickon then but well, not everything can be perfect :p.

How did I miss this when the comment fic meme was going strong?!?! This is a wonderful piece, and the UST kills me (like in pretty much all Stannis fics).

Stannis' crack about Loras made me laugh.

This quote pretty much sums up why I like Stannis' character so much--he takes other people's opinions into consideration and listen to them, no matter who they are and how much he likes them. Stannis' dynamic with Jon in ADWD (and ASOS, to a certain extent) is very similar to his dynamic with Davos, for both men don't have any qualms with telling Stannis what he needs to hear. There's a part in ADWD when Stannis grumbles to Jon (rough paraphrasing) "for once you might give me an answer that would please me," and Jon responds "I would hope the truth would please you." I love that scene, and I love how you incorporated the dynamic into this.

The parallels between Stannis&Davos and Stannis&Jon are just beautiful. I love how Stannis always listens to them, but still makes his own decisions. He does exactly what a leader should do: listen to his advisors,without being controlled by them. <3

Tadaaa, here's a second fill, as promised. It's actually set in canon, go me. But writing not-Kingsguard!Jon is just confusing, it feels all weird to me. ;)

The Night's Watch takes no part. It does not matter which king wins the Iron Throne. Jon keeps repeating the words in his mind, but he is less and less convinced of them. King Stannis Baratheon was hardly a pleasant guest at Castle Black, demanding, prickly, irascible, and yet Jon finds his respect growing every time he talks to the king. Every time he kneels and Stannis tells him in that impatient voice to get up. Every time Stannis gives him that angry look that is still tinged with respect since Jon refused Winterfell.

But it is not wishing for Stannis' victory that unsettles Jon most. He knows he shouldn't think that Stannis would make a better king than a Lannister bastard, but at least it is not a selfish thought. It is not only the desire to see the Lannisters punished that makes him take Stannis' side, but also his hope that the realm will finally get a king who puts his duties above his wishes.

The true shame comes with other thoughts, more secret even, hidden so deep that he barely allows himself to dwell on them, thoughts that make him blush just by crossing his mind. Thoughts he has no excuse for.

The king is not a handsome man. He is too gaunt and too pale to look healthy, his broad shoulders and large hands are intimidating more than attractive, the blue of his eyes is as dark and threatening as the sea on a stormy night. But there is something about him that brings Jon's thoughts back to him again and again: the determination in his eyes, the uncompromising harshness that seems born out of duty rather than arrogance. Jon finds that he does not mind bending the knee to him every time they meet. That he would not mind staying on his knees if the king asked him to.

He suppresses those thoughts every time he stands in front of Stannis, but it is much more difficult to resist when he's alone, retired to his room, the king's voice still ringing in his ears, full of anger and grudging respect. He should not be thinking that he would hate to lose that respect, no matter the cost. It frightens him even more than the fact that Stannis still rules his thoughts every time Jon touches himself. Afterwards he always promises himself that he will never think of the king again, not that way, but his determination only ever holds until the next night.

He tells himself that thinking it may not be that bad, as long as he does not say a word.

That he would not mind staying on his knees if the king asked him to.

Ok, this is the slashiest and hottest line ever in regards to those two. This is great, and yes, you've corrupted me into this UST pairing (not that I mind though). I really like the way that you've portrayed how Stannis' various aspects dominates Jon in every way and almost torments him which is much more intimate than just all-out sex.

Jon kneeling for Stannis seems to be a recurring theme in my fics, I just realised. The power dynamics between these two are just so beautiful and intriguing, I could play around with that forever. I actually had a line in there about how Jon craves Stannis' approval the way he did with his father, but then I realised that wasn't actually fitting for ASOS/ADWD!Jon, but only for future!Jon. So the line had to go, but I still like it. ;)

I'm so glad you liked this, and even happier that I've managed to convert you to this pairing. I keep wanting to write actual porn about them, but every time I try Stannis just angsts at me.

This is excellent. This is just ;lashdjfg;flk I LOVE that you started it with Jon's allegiance - just wanting Stannis to be king is a thought he ought to keep in check - and then went on to the other thoughts he shouldn't be having. Such a perfect way to introduce it and so psychologically plausible, in my opinion.

I also love how Jon has this very unromanticised view of Stannis - he's not attractive (or he shouldn't be, not in physical terms and not taken piece-by-piece) but Jon is attracted to him. He might find Stannis' big hands and his harsh strength intimidating but you can just see that he is into it. Oh Jon, one day you will figure that out and be even more worried about the terrible thoughts you're having. ;D

But, anyway, yesss, eeeee, canon!fic and Jon Snow's conflicted, not-quite confirmed loyalty. SO GOOD. I can't believe you filled this prompt twice. You are the best. I owe you, one soul/lots of fic.

Jon always seems to cling to his vows whenever he doesn't know what to do, much like Stannis clings to rules and laws. It's like their way of dealing with a moral dilemma is to remind themselves of what they believe is their duty.

I think I just got too used to Kingsguard!Jon. And, tbh, I have no idea if I'm even capable of writing pre-Kingsguard!Jon in longer fics in a believable way.

I absolutely love it. They both have very strong principles, but they're flexible enough to be pragmatic, unlike Robb or Ned.

So turning this into a prompt now. (That would be epic - TWOW is really just about Jon's feverish dreams about Stannis.)
