Comment fic meme #2

After the first round of

got_exchange we had a surprisingly successful comment fic meme going for a while (here's a list of all the fics that were written last time), so I thought it might be fun to do this again. (Like last time, it's posted on the mod account journal because I don't want to enable anonymous comments on the exchange community.)

I changed the layout to one that still supports comment titles. I hope it works for everyone. If there are any problems, please let me know.

A couple of rules, or rather guidelines:

- please include the pairing/character (and maybe a short prompt/kink) in the comment title - both for prompts and for fills.
- there are both show and book fans on this comm, so please warn for book spoilers beyond AGOT in the comment title.
- anonymous comments are enabled, but I'd appreciate if we kept them to a minimum. If you absolutely want to go anon, okay, but I'd rather we kept this as non-anonymous as possible.
- all prompts are welcome: smut, gen, romance, fluff, angst, het, slash ... anything goes.
- and the usual: be civil, no character/pairing bashing, no kink shaming etc.

It's perfectly fine to repost prompts from the last comment fic meme or from the exchange.

As with any kink meme, this is only fun if people also fill prompts, not if there are only requests.

Jaime has a secret thing for redheads.

He keeps it locked deep, a secret he barely whispers to himself, but Jaime likes his sister best when the setting sun kisses all the colors of dusk across her in his bed, when she is bathed in purple and orange and red. Red, most of all.

He’s always had a thing, truly, for red hair.

(He can never, ever, ever tell Cersei.)

It’s less common than the other colors, after all, and if he’s learned anything from his father (a Lannister always pays his debts our name lives on hear me roar) it’s that rare things are valuable and worth owning, and worth owning more than anyone else, because it always comes in handy, in the end, to have more – just more, of everything, all the time.

He could have had one, a redheaded Tully bride, sweet and unassuming and pliable as she’d been. But glory and honors had been the rarity he’d sought, then, and he’d longed for the red of blood and battle instead of something softer between his fingers (and of course, there had been Cersei, there had always been Cersei).

And besides, it is her sister Catelyn’s hair that he catches between his fingers, looping it around his glove and she raises an eyebrow.

“Pretty,” he says, and she laughs, she’s laughing at him and he likes that, she’s far more spirited than her sister and he likes that too, it suits her to have a fiery personality to go with that fiery hair.

Maybe he would have married that redheaded Tully girl, if it had ever been an option, if she had not been promised to a man in the North (but probably not, if he is being honest with himself, still that call of blood and battle).

Years pass and the seasons change and he’s going North with his sister the queen, and it is exactly as desolate and barren as he had imagined (everything is muted in grey and blue and Jaime holds with brighter colors).

Catelyn Stark is a beautiful woman – nowhere near as beautiful as Cersei, but being as beautiful as Cersei is a feat that no woman Jaime has ever met has managed, but she’s still lovely and she still has all that red hair. It’s bled into the Starks now, he sees, the children have the Tully look, and the luckier they are for it, in Jaime’s opinion there is no need for ladies and lads who look like Eddard Stark, always so solemn and long-faced.

Her girl (his girl, Ned Stark’s girl, is all that matters in Robert’s mind) is to be Joffrey’s bride and she is flawless, if her mother is copper than she is porcelain, all the small imperfections carefully smoothed away. Her hair is red, too, brighter, burnished, blinding.

How beautiful, he thinks, and how quickly she shall break.

(He is right, but she will mend and meld into something stronger.)

Catelyn Stark is less beautiful when he sees her in the dimness of his captivity, grief and war written along the curve of her cheek, but what little light filters through catches on the red in her hair, and really, he isn’t at his best either. He’s only ever, in his life, been with Cersei but he’s drunk enough and desperate enough to have her, and perhaps guilty enough, too.

Sometimes you can fuck away your pain, you know, he wants to tell her. Take it from someone who knows all too well. And her hair is still red, after all.

In the end he doesn’t, doesn’t have to, she sets him free anyway with promises drawn at sword tip, and maybe there is a little regret in that, for him, maybe it would have been nice, for both of them, to feel a little pleasure in this world so determined to deny it to them.

When the dust settles and the battles are done, singers will call Sansa Stark a goddess of spring in those songs she has long forgotten the tunes and words to, but Jaime Lannister knows her to be a lady of winter, she is a Stark, after all, for all that she is crowned with Tully red.

A Stark, he swears his sword anyway.

My last chance at honor, he thinks, and lays his sword at her feet and thinks to see that little girl from Winterfell, a budding beauty on the cusp of womanhood, a flower to bloom in the South.

She is more beautiful, more terrible, so much more grown than he had expected, he had thought to save a child but swears himself, instead, to a lady.

Her eyes are serious, solemn (there is some Ned Stark in her after all, he thinks) and do nothing to betray her thoughts. “You do me honor, ser,” she says, but her voice is flat. A Lannister’s honor, still, apparently, does not count for much, and Jaime’s credit has always been the worst of them all no matter which direction he turns, no matter where he swings his sword.

A wind stirs her hair, and he remembers that ugly drab brown it was, the day she was recovered, and he is glad she has cast that aside. Red, he wants to tell her, red is always better, rarer.

“You give me honor, my lady,” he answers honestly, and wonders what she would do, if he looped a lock of that bright copper hair over his finger, would she be still so measured and quiet or would she laugh, instead.

Always more. More of everything.

And Jaime has always had a fondness for red hair.

I absolutely love the emphasis on red hair as a rarity; of course that's how a Lannister would value things, and it grounds Jaime's little kink in something very real and powerful.

All of the Jaime/Cat memories are just flawless, from the innocence of that first encounter- he just wants to touch her hair...ahhhh all the feeeeels..- to the fact that he seriously considers seducing her while in captivity. Amazing.

And, of course, allll the love the in the world for your Jaime and Sansa moments. It's so interesting that he is constantly qualifying Catelyn's beauty- yes, she has the red hair, but she's not as beautiful as Cersei, not as beautiful when he sees her in his cell- but he acknowledges Sansa as something else, something rarer (again with that fabulous motif) and more special.

I think he definitely sees Sansa as something greater - 'my last chance at honor' is a heavy burden to put upon someone! I'm so glad you enjoyed that part, I think he would definitely see them in different ways - Catelyn as more human, more flawed, but utimately sees her in a more sexual way than Sansa, who is more an adoration thing, an admiration, a replacement for his pedestal where Cersei once stood (and where Catelyn never could) - still attraction but a little bit more of a distance.

Thank you! I'm kind of a fan of the 'Sansa pwns everyone and everything' endgame theory, although I think she'd still have that sweetness that makes her SANSA, I think after everything she's been through she's forged a bit of steel to herself. I'm so glad you enjoyed! :D

I really like this fic. Jaime/Cat strike me as an interesting pairing, and I love the idea of Sansa growing into her own power. Jaime preferring red hair because it's rare is an inspired idea. I enjoyed the progression of Jaime's thoughts from meeting Cat and Lysa in Riverrun to seeing Cat and Sansa in Winterfell to propositioning widowed Cat to ultimately trying to reclaim honor through Sansa. Jaime's perception of the two women and their degrees of Tully-ness and Stark-ness was a great ongoing theme and reminded me of Petyr's observations in the books.

Thank you!! I think Jaime/Catelyn could have totally worked in an alternate universe - he likes the strong women, after all! I'm so glad you liked it! I tried to mirror Jaime's journey (arrogant youth, brother to the Queen, desperate prisoner, seeking redemption) through his thoughts on the girls. I also thought of Petyr's thoughts about them, as well, and then tried to dial the creepy down a few thousand notches. I think Jaime would have been more attracted on a man-to-woman level to Catelyn, and then kind of put Sansa on a pedestal and sees her as an almost other-worldly creature, where he can reclaim his honor.

And now I totally want to fill this prompt again with something light-hearted (light-hearted?? ME???) with flirty Jaime and Catelyn. XD MIGHT HAVE TO.

I like your take on the difference in how Jaime views the two women. Catelyn is a peer/real woman, and Sansa is an icon/symbol. Luckily, it's easy for Jaime to be way less creepy than Petyr--no icky father/daughter fantasies from him. Now, I really want you to write light-hearted Jaime/Cat; it'll be good for you!

I've always been so intrigued by Jaime and this was such a treat! we get to see how he's facinated by Catelyn and Sansa...but in such different ways...and as a Sansa fan, I love how strong she ends up...great stuff!
