Comment fic meme #2

After the first round of [livejournal.com profile] got_exchange we had a surprisingly successful comment fic meme going for a while (here's a list of all the fics that were written last time), so I thought it might be fun to do this again. (Like last time, it's posted on the mod account journal because I don't want to enable anonymous comments on the exchange community.)

I changed the layout to one that still supports comment titles. I hope it works for everyone. If there are any problems, please let me know.

A couple of rules, or rather guidelines:

- please include the pairing/character (and maybe a short prompt/kink) in the comment title - both for prompts and for fills.
- there are both show and book fans on this comm, so please warn for book spoilers beyond AGOT in the comment title.
- anonymous comments are enabled, but I'd appreciate if we kept them to a minimum. If you absolutely want to go anon, okay, but I'd rather we kept this as non-anonymous as possible.
- all prompts are welcome: smut, gen, romance, fluff, angst, het, slash ... anything goes.
- and the usual: be civil, no character/pairing bashing, no kink shaming etc.

It's perfectly fine to repost prompts from the last comment fic meme or from the exchange.

As with any kink meme, this is only fun if people also fill prompts, not if there are only requests.

Filled prompts:

Petyr/Lysa, King's Landing (ASoS spoilers)

Something about their relationship in King's Landing, how Petyr manipulates her.

FILL: Her eyes closed, Part I

[identity profile] sternflammenden.livejournal.com 2012-03-06 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
It isn’t difficult to find moments in which he can come to her. Although Lysa knows that she should refuse his offers and advances (after all, she should think of their son at least, hard-won to say the least), it’s Petyr. Her Petyr, but not quite. After all, she’s married, Lady Arryn now, and although she isn’t so much a part of court life as her Lord is, tongues are hungry for gossip, minds starved for scandal.

It’s not what it looks like, she tells herself. Just an old friend, risen high. We only speak of the past, and not the present, or what could be.

That is a lie, of course.

It’s Lysa’s hand that has forced Petyr’s rise, her quiet whispers in Jon’s ear, and he, eager to see his pale, careworn wife smile again, agrees, ensures a place in Council for his wife’s childhood companion. His honor blinds him to her true motives, and while practice and custom have decreed that her championing of this upstart remain honorable, she cannot help but feel a twinge of shame when all of her machinations, however transparent they are, come to fruition.

*

“You see, I remembered,” Petyr says, brandishing a chain of wildflowers, which Lysa will later press in her book of hours, preserving it, locking it away lest it should be seen. She doesn’t answer at first, because her mind is, as it is now too often, in the Riverlands, running along the banks with Cat and Petyr, always struggling to keep up, always trailing behind. But she remembers now one day when they’d woven crowns, bedecked each other with fly-blown daisies, Petyr teasingly pulling Cat’s from her fiery locks and placing it crookedly on Lysa’s head. They’d all laughed, but later, when she was alone, she’d pressed it to her like a lover, savoring the memory, however slight, of his nimble fingers on her brow, Cat’s giggles, the blush that had risen to her cheeks when he’d bowed mockingly, calling her his lady.

“I’ve never forgotten,” Lysa says softly, and hates herself.

*

It is hard for her to believe that he is a man, and not the boy who she’d held in her heart. He’s still small and slender, yet elegant, without the graceless charm of his boyhood. And stylish, always clad in such finely-wrought garments, his neat moustache and beard adding the illusion of age and experience to his still-youthful features. When he brushes lips to her cheek to greet her, it scratches and she finds that she does not care for it, but holds her tongue.

Why spoil everything, after all?

Petyr is careful to always appear solicitous, a cosmopolitan acquaintance, a chivalrous gentleman paying court to an old friend whose life would be lonely indeed without such attention, her husband bound up daily in affairs of state. Next to his graceful figure and sparkling conversation, Lysa feels plain and dull. She has not taken to the capital as he has, and her body has thickened from childbirth, although she takes care to cloak it in the finest gowns. But he never lets on that she is any different from the slender creature who ran laughing through the reeds, or the girl who’d taken him to her bed, once, with open arms and a foolishly transparent heart.

He makes her feel young again. That is something.

*

One evening, when she has retired early from an interminable feast, Petyr meets her in her rooms. He says nothing, but takes her hand and presses it to her lips. Lysa allows it, thinking that it can do no harm. When he spans her waist she permits that as well. And when his lips meet hers, she responds, thinking that she will put a stop to things before they go too far, but when they fall to the bed, her resolve falls away as easily as her dress.

FILL: Her eyes closed, Part II

[identity profile] sternflammenden.livejournal.com 2012-03-06 06:12 am (UTC)(link)

*

He hands her a small bottle after one of their clandestine meetings, and at first, thinking that it is perfume, uncaps it to daub a bit behind an ear, in her bosom, to show her appreciation. But Petyr stays her hands.

“Take care, my love,” he says, and for once, the lilting note in his voice is gone. “I would not have you come to such an end.”

And then he explains, in a whisper, nipping at her neck between her exclamations of shock, and then, as things progress, pleasure. It is a way for them to be together and isn’t that what she wants. It is the only way, of course. And no one will ever believe it possible.

She tucks the bottle in the corner of a drawer stuffed with fripperies, handkerchiefs and half-spent pomades, tarnished rings in need of a cleaning, a place where no one will bother to look. It will keep there until the time is ripe.

And then she yields, her eyes tightly closed.

This is amazing! Great psychology and I love your take on Lysa. She lost before even the battle began.

Thank you!

I love writing Lysa so much. I totally sympathize with her.

I just need to bask in how PERFECT this is for awhile.

Thank you so much for filling this, it is wonderful. I loved the choice to have it from Lysa's point of view, we can see that something is off-balance about their whole relationship but we see it through her eyes that are so desperate to believe.

Some of my favorite parts: 'tongues are hungry for gossip, minds starved for scandal.' describes the court perfectly, and yet also hints at Lysa's paranoia, her fear that everyone is looking and watching.

'“I’ve never forgotten,” Lysa says softly, and hates herself. ' Oh, Lysa! That, paired with 'He makes her feel young again. That is something.' just sums up her tragedy so well, knowing what lies ahead for her - her best days are behind her and she is always grasping for them. (Also love her not caring for Petyr's beard, another reminder of time passing and things changing.)

'“Take care, my love,” he says, and for once, the lilting note in his voice is gone. “I would not have you come to such an end.” Ahhhh I love the foreshadowing!! That he would not have her come to 'such' an end. :(

And the ending line is PERFECTION, such a great summation of her character - eyes tightly closed.

Ugh ugh ugh, I could go on forever, this is just so wonderful, your Lysa is so perfect. Wonderful, wonderful work!!

Wow, thank you. This was totally my pleasure to write; I adore Lysa and love writing things from her POV, especially the whole Petyr-Cat affair. She simultaneously enrages me and breaks my heart.

Ohhh my goodness, poor Lysa!

There's something so profoundly sad about her; the yearning and unrequited love...she's so THWARTED, and you capture that perfectly here.

Petyr is spot-on, too- the master manipulator, always. Using her love and desire for him to get her to poison Jon Arryn...ughhhh. But also, YES, because that's exactly what he would do.

Simply stunning.

Thank you - as I said in a comment above, Lysa's character both infuriates and breaks my heart. She's so lost and tragic and blind to what Petyr does.

Your characterization of Lysa, as always, is flawless! :)

I really enjoy writing her, even if it's sad.

Oh, this is so wonderfully heartbreaking. I love your Lysa, as always.

I love all the little details in this: her relationship with Jon, or how she hated Petyr's beard (which she makes him shave off, of course).

Thank you. I think she's my favorite character to write at this point. I don't even know how that happened. :)

This was a great examination of Lysa in King's Landing. I feel so much sympathy for her, and I like how you allowed her to have some self-awareness and shame about her relationship with Petyr. Lysa feeling "plain and dull" compared to others is practically the theme of her life, and it worked well to apply that to the remade, stylish Petyr. The line, "I would not have you come to such an end," is perfect and horrifying when you think of Lysa's actual demise. Lysa's perspective was great in this story and so poignant since we know that Petyr was deliberately manipulating her for his own ends. Wonderful job!

Thank you so much. I too have a great deal of sympathy for Lysa. While she did some terrible things (and tried to - poor Sansa), she's damaged by the time that we see her in the books. I'm glad that you liked this.

Holy shit, I think you captured lysa so well here - made me feel even worse for her fate. How easily she falls, and it's not really, or not only, for Petyr, but for everything he offers, which is everything she ever wanted... :'( beautiful!!

OH ALSO! I forgot to add (because there was so much I had to ramble about!) that I love the little insights into Lysa and Jon Arryn's marriage, it's as I imagined it - he was a bit baffled as to what to do with her, so he indulged her (possibly how their son ended up being breastfed until at least six?). SO EXCELLENT.

I always imagine that with the large age difference, he's at a loss with what to do with someone who's young enough to be his daughter. Obviously, there's a lot of that situation in Westeros...

And he just leaves her alone because he's too busy w/his HOTK duties to even care, which depresses me.
