It's why I love this comment fic meme. It gives me reasons to write silly little scenes like this one and just post them right away, without obsessing over it for ages and feeling like it has to be perfect before I can post it anywhere.
I'm not sure how it would have changed the plot or anything, but I'm fairly sure it would have been good for Stannis to grow up with a boy his age who likes him and whom he likes. To be the one who has a BFF who's as close to him as a brother should be, rather than to be the guy who always hears, "Ned is more of a brother to me than you are, Stannis." Then again, Ned and Stannis would be the most BORING friends ever. ;)
I love Davos taking care of Stannis. I don't know if you've seen the fill roflskate wrote for me, but it's beautiful and it also has Davos being there for Stannis.
